I mean you can view these local channels for free with antenna(well after 2009 it will be digital) so why do dish/satellite networks like direct tv or the dish network charge extra fees to get those channels? Couldn’t you just unplug/turn off the satellite receiver (and prop the antenna if needed) and watch the local news without paying anything extra?

note: I currently have cable and was thinking of switching to a dish until I saw the extra fee for local channels.
